Northrop Grumman, a Virginia-based global aerospace and defense technology company, is enhancing its presence in Plymouth, with a planned expansion expected to cost more than $1.5 million. The project will build out the 191,000-square foot facility, located at 4700 Nathan Ln. N., which is the headquarters for the company’s Armament Systems unit.
The expansion is slated to create more than 60 new jobs over the course of the next three years.
“We are pleased that Northrop Grumman is choosing to continue its growth in Plymouth,” said Steve Grove, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). “The company’s decision is a testament to the strength of Minnesota’s economy and the value of our workforce.”
DEED is supporting the project with a $600,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund and $700,000 from the Job Creation Fund.
The latter is a pay-for-performance program that provides funding to businesses meeting certain job creation and private investment criteria. Northrop Grumman meets the program’s requirements of creating at least 10-full-time jobs and investing at least $500,000.
Likewise, the company’s expansion fits the bill for the Minnesota Investment Fund, which provides loans and grants to companies that create jobs in the industrial, manufacturing, and technology spaces.
In addition to its arms-focused operations, Northrop Grumman Plymouth also develops and provides program and production management for precision guidance capabilities and networked systems.
“Northrop Grumman’s decision to reinvest here in Minnesota is another example that the state is open for business,” said Governor Tim Walz. “These new jobs will benefit both the City of Plymouth and the state as a whole.”
