TSI Expands Shoreview HQ, Plans To Add 200 Jobs
TSI plans to add about 50 percent more jobs to its corporate headquarters over the next four to five years to occupy its 58,000-square-foot expansion.
July 23, 2013
TSI, Inc., a designer and producer of precision measurement instruments, announced Monday that it has completed a 58,000-square-foot expansion of its corporate headquarters in Shoreview, which was built with plans in mind to hire 200 new employees over the next four to five years.
The two-story addition includes seven new conference rooms, eight engineering labs, and a large meeting space with a 500-seating capacity, as well as 26,000 square feet of additional manufacturing space. The expansion brings the building’s total square footage to more than 200,000.
“Designed with an open, flexible layout of utilities to aid in lean manufacturing, this space was designed for future growth and the addition of new employees,” President Tom Kennedy said in a statement.
TSI researches, designs, and manufactures tools relating to measurements in aerosol science, air flow, indoor air quality, fluid dynamics, and biohazard detection.
The company’s headquarters currently houses 424 employees, who represent the majority of TSI’s 546 total employees, according to a company spokeswoman. (The company also operates offices in Europe and Asia.) But its Minnesota headcount is expected to grow significantly.
“All of the 200 employees will be completely new hires, rather than existing employee transitions,” said Paul Girard, TSI’s facilities manager. “However, we are also always looking for acquisition opportunities, and if were we to purchase a new company, some of the spots could be filled by some of their employees.”
“The new employees will be a mix of everything—accountants, marketing and sales, engineers, production staff,” Girard added.
TSI’s growth has been driven in part by success in its overseas markets, said Girard. More than half of TSI’s products are currently shipped outside of North America, to countries in Europe, as well as China, Singapore, Japan, India, and others.
St. Louis Park-based general contractor RJM Construction began the expansion of TSI’s headquarters in October. The addition was debuted during a Tuesday dedication ceremony featuring Shoreview Mayor Sandy Martin.
TSI declined to disclose its total revenue.
