Mpls. Firm Buys Duluth Health Care Center For $2.3M

Health Dimensions Group (HDG) announced plans Thursday to purchase Duluth-based Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center for $2.3 million.
 
The Minneapolis-based health care management and consulting firm said it expects to close on the sale of the 24-acre senior health rehabilitation campus by March 31. HDG said the acquisition further solidifies its presence in the senior living and “post-acute” health care market.
 
After the sale is finalized, HDG plans to invest in physical plant upgrades for the 170-bed nursing facility. Additionally, the company said it has already started work on determining the feasibility of adding a senior housing center—to include assisted living and dementia care—on an adjacent vacant lot.
 
HDG leased and operated Chris Jensen since November 2009, and it has already invested over $575,000 into physical improvements to the building, the company said.
 
“We have greatly appreciated the enthusiastic support from the St. Louis County Board of Commissioners during this process,” HDG CEO Craig Abbott said in a statement. “We are committed to the residents of Duluth and the surrounding communities for the long term.”
 
An HDG spokeswoman said Chris Jensen will retain its name after the acquisition.
 
HDG manages and operates 20 health care properties—nine in Minnesota, seven in Wisconsin, two in Colorado, one in Iowa, and one in Illinois. It also operates two home health and hospice agencies, one in Illinois and one in Minnesota. HDG also provides consulting solutions to clients in all 50 states.
 
HDG has about 80 employees and Chris Jensen has 250.
